Loy Krathong + Chak Phra Special Tour

8-11 November 2022 Limited Seats

This tour evolves around a historical Wat Nang Chi, built in the 1400s of the Ayutthaya period, due to a nobleman's prayer to save his daughter. It was later abandoned but restored during King Rama of the Rattanakosin period in 1700s and the temple was strongly influenced by Chinese architecture then  Find out some of the mysteries that remain today such as the enshrined bodies of a nun and a child. View the sites that was used for location shoot in James Bond's movie in 1973. The same temple has been conducting Chak Phra, a major Buddhism festival for centuries, and this is the first time it is allowing tourists to participate in its river procession alongside 20 other boats! Chak Phra is a major festival across Thailand since the 3rd century to celebrate the reincarnation of Buddha based on its origin in India. and Wat Nang Chi is the only temple in Bangkok that organises this celebration because it is able to parade the Buddha's relic. Unlike all other temples, ithe Buddha's relic in this temple is not buried in the pagoda but encased into a special imported glass.

TNN Chanel 16 Bangkok News on 16 November 2016

This year's Chak Phra takes place two days after Loy Krathong. Hence this tour incorporates the most picturesque festival in Thailand, also known as the Festival of Lights, with Chak Phra, a most holy celebration of faith and worship. For Loy Krathong, you will learn to make your own water craft to send out your wishes into the river and learn how to send away your bad experiences to make room for better beginnings.

Complete this trip with a special walking tour into two villages to feel the charms, tranquility and serenity of a countryside that is just 20 minutes from the city center! Hear village folklores and superstitions. Experience a river house along with home cooked specialty grilled beef and pork meats imported from Sahkon Nahkon, Isaan with lunch in a local restaurant that cooks great Thai Chinese food.

About Ratchapruek - The Royal Flower

Thailand, a country rich for its culture, heritage and monarchy. The flower Ratchaphruek was selected as its national flower in October 2001 in respect of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. Each day of the week represents a specific colour in Thai culture. As the late king was born on Monday, the Ratchaphruek's bright gold yellow in its flower bursts, was selected as the national flower. In Thai culture, yellow is seen as the colour of glory, harmony, and unity. Hence, yellow is also the national color and this flower's color is fondly named the royal yellow. The Ratchaphruek is a stunning tree and when it blossoms. The flowers gather in clusters while the leaves fall. Hence if you get to a see a ratchaphruek full of green leaves, it is not in blossom period which is usually during the hottest months from April to September. The tree bears fruits which is not edible but accordingly to history has some medicinal values as it is known as a ‘disease killer’ in traditional Ayurvedic medicine. It attracts the carpenter bees most and also some wild animals.

Artist: Katig

The Ratchaphruek painting on old wood planks offers a natural rustic look and is a very popular painting amongst Katig's collections as the cheery yellow flowers light up any space while accompanied by history and meanings. Be the proud owner of this oil painting as there is no second piece just as in no two trees are alike.

About Turtles

Turtles are reptiles with hard shells that protect them from predators. They are among the oldest and most primitive groups of reptiles, having evolved millions of years ago. Turtles live all over the world under all types of climate. The symbols of turtle are longevity, perseverance, steadfastness, protection, retreat, and tranquility, Hence the turtle or image is believed to offer support and brings success, and riches. The turtle has a major presence in many cultures worldwide and the smaller species are adored as a pet. In ancient mythology, the turtle is related to the world's creation and propagation. This art piece of turtle and water is meaningful and for many an auspicious one too!

Artists: Tarisse King & Tegan Hamilton

Tegan Hamilton developed her love for natural history, spending her formative years in rural Victoria. Using her passion to depict the wildlife around her she paints these majestic creatures which have such important connections to the King Sisters. Tarisse paints her stories on the canvas with Palaarn (the turtle), one of the oldest creatures in the world. An ancestor existing to tell stories of the old mob.
